Jack grew up in Spokane Washington, attended Gonzaga Preparatory School, worked for Chevron for five years, attended Gonzaga University (B.A.), WSU (M.A.) and Northwestern (Doctoral candidate) and became a teacher. Late in life he met soul mate, Donna, and they have been happily married for 24 years.
Jack taught English and Drama and was Fine Arts Dept. Chair at Gonzaga Prep in Spokane for 33 years. His students remember him fondly and at least once every few months, when Tim tours the shows, one of Jack’s former students will stay after the performance to ask about his current whereabouts, and share some warm story about Jack as a teacher.
Currently he and his wife are owners and innkeepers of Bed and Breakfast at Oliver Phelps in the Finger Lake region of NY.
From high school to graduate school and beyond, Jack’s focus has been on theater and every wonderful thing that surrounds theater. The nature of the school year and financial challenges of teaching in a private school gave Jack the opportunity over the years to gather those life experiences so important to an artist by working as a bartender, waiter, cook, fork lift operator, bus driver, truck driver, salesman and farmhand.
He has directed on every level including Community Theater, University Theater, Regional Theater and Professional Theater including, as Jack puts it, “a wonderfully challenging and rewarding time as director of the McManus Comedies starring Tim Behrens.”
